It was a calm and cold Wednesday afternoon last August .As we arrived at the Obasanjo presidential library you could feel the palpable tension in the air. The boys had been waiting for this day. Waiting for almost three hundred and sixty five days. Waiting to avenge their shocking defeat in the hands of the girls at last year's summer school .They had prepared practiced and trained tirelessly. They were confident of a simple victory .So, as they took prematch pictures, you could see they had the confidence of a Nobel laureate preparing to write a primary two exam.
However, they failed to notice that the girls were also in a confident mood .In fact, had they been paying attention they would have heard some of the girls suggesting that some teachers be added to the boy’s team to make it a fair match. Oh, such was the confidence of the girls.
And so the match began. It was epic. Dribbles and Passes. Tackles and Kicks. Throwings and Free kicks. Penalties played to throwing. Oh, the game had it all. And then it happened, right in the penalty area, a wild scuffle, an effortless dribble and then a goal! The boys had scored the first goal. They celebrated wildly. They danced like the match was over. The celebrations were really a bit too much. The girls were undaunted, they were determined; they set their sights firmly on victory.
And so it began again.it was legendary. Passes and Dribbles. Kicks and Tackles Free kicks and throwings. And yes, Penalties played to throwing. And then it happened again .A wild scuffle, An effortless dribble, a telepathic pass and then a goal! The boys had scored again. They were two goals up. The celebrated even more wildly. They brought out ancient and modern dance moves. It was even more over the top than before. But again, the girls were undaunted, they were determined; they set their sights firmly on victory.
Kickoff, Passing ,Dribbles,Tackles,Free kicks,throwings and then the boys scored again .They were three goals up.It was signed sealed and delivered .Or so the boys thought. And then came the surprise. Actually three surprises. The boys brought in players who were smaller than the girls on the field and the tide changed. It was fast and quick. Three goals in quick succession, It was like a movie script. The boys were in a panic. They tried to regroup, but it was too late. The referee blew the whistle .It was going to be a penalty shootout.
It was a mismatch. It was like lifting a mountain, the boys had no chance. The game ended quickly .The girls won,they had beaten the boys 7-3 .They celebrated wildly. They brought out ancient modern and future dance moves. The celebrations were really a bit too much(lol).
